Illuminating the Science of Aging
On February 27, 2015, the Threestones Foundation proudly supported an inspiring conference organized by the Association Monégasque pour la Recherche sur la Maladie d’Alzheimer (AMPA), held at the Yacht Club in Gstaad. The event gathered leading experts and guests to explore new perspectives on Alzheimer’s and the biology of aging.

A Meeting of Minds
Led by AMPA’s founder, Madame Catherine Pastor, and featuring a keynote by Professor Bruno Vellas, President of IHU Health Age, the conference shed light on groundbreaking advances in understanding how aging can be studied, guided, and improved. Professor Vellas emphasized the distinction between biological and chronological age and introduced the concept of intrinsic capacity — the physical and mental reserves that determine the quality of aging.

Science with Purpose
Research now focuses on preserving this capacity and using emerging tools such as the ICOP App to detect early cognitive decline. A twelve-year international study spanning multiple species is deepening our understanding of aging’s mechanisms and paving the way for new medical approaches that promote vitality and autonomy in later life.

Shared Vision
The evening reflected AMPA’s mission to unite scientists, caregivers, and the public in advancing Alzheimer’s research and supporting affected families. Through this collaboration, the Threestones Foundation reaffirms its commitment to initiatives that not only alleviate suffering but also celebrate and enhance the human experience of aging.
